Hair loss era - question on minoxidil and derma rolling (2025)

Pointless to use a growth stimulant without a 5AR blocker [propecia, avodart].

Pointless to dermaroll / microneedle, just use Tretinoin cream if your body doesn't produce the right enzyme to get results from Min [only way to know is through trial and error].

All legit studies show zero benefit to derma-rolling or micro-needling for hair growth, and you're likely to cause damage / create scar tissue / make things worse.

Combating hair loss is as simple as taking a 5AR blocker every day, as early as possible because regaining lost hair is less likely than maintaining what you still have.

Then you can add a growth stimulant for some regrowth if desired, and then a hair transplant on top of that, if needed / wanted [and even then, you'll need to stay on a 5AR blocker for the rest of your life].

Also, please don't touch oral minoxidil, it's very dangerous for your heart, and for some reason every one downplays this fact.

5AR blockers are ridiculously safe, and fears over them are extremely overblown [been on them 16+ years now, I'm fitter and healthier than any one else my age that I know].

You would think by 2025 hair loss would have been completely solved. One dose of a magical foam and you wake up the next morning with a full set of hair. lol

I guess wig companies wouldn't like that.

It pretty much is / has been for 20+ years now...

Propecia works.

You just need to get on it as soon as your hair starts to recede.

First signs of hair loss [at 24 years old], I hopped on finasteride, and I've lost essentially zero hair ever since.

you will losing ground if you dont take finasteride / dutasteride

Cannot emphasize this enough.

You are wasting your time and money doing anything other than 5AR blockers first and foremost.

Scared of Fin / Dut?

Have questions / concerns about Min? Oral Min? Microneedling? Bludflow?

Save yourself from all the misleading bullshit, and just go straight to the relatable neuro-zesty vegan-gamer source, Haircafe:

Seriously though, Kevin is the best, and has a video to address any question or concern people exploring MPB might ever have.

Cannot recommend him enough.

Well, it's like I said, we still don't 100% understand how the human body works. Most of the understanding we have of the hair loss/regrowth process is less 100% confirmed locked-in science and more a collection of commonly-held theories and accepted explanations.

On top of that, drugs like finasteride are expensive, and there's probably a vested interest inside pharma to keep people reliant on those kinds of permanent "vanity" prescriptions that cost a lot of money and insurance doesn't completely cover than to come up with a permanent solve.

What?

We know exactly how male pattern hair loss works....

That's the reason 5AR blockers exist, because of the discovery of a tribe that lacks the enzyme necessary to create DHT from T and as such experiences ZERO hair loss.

And that's why hair transplants work.

And that's why 5AR blockers work...

Also, what are you on about wrt price?

Finasteride / Dutasteride costs me like $35/$40 CAD for 3 months of supply...

How is that expensive?

Yeah, I'm in process of getting my topical Fin/Min switched over to oral Fin/Min right now due to the concerns around pets and Min. Gonna have to deep clean everything before I get my cat after hearing how toxic it can be.

Heard mixed things about how effective derma rolling can be with oral, though I've never honestly done it even with full topical, so I can't really say if it'd be worth it without.

I would seriously dissuade you from using oral minoxidil, check out Haircafe's video on the research surrounding its effects on heart health.

Personally I even notice topical Minoxidil giving me an increased RHR.

Most people would not notice, I only do because I track my HRV and RHR religiously to stave off overt-training syndrome [ultra runner].

Any artificial / outside in crease to RHR is just... a generally bad health marker so I said no thanks.

Micro needling yes, will create tonnes of tiny holes in your scalp, so obviously liquid / foam Min will penetrate better.

But outside of that there is zero benefit chemically.

Hence why one should simply use Tretinoin cream instead, because it is proven to chemically enhance the effects of Min.
